You're better than you think
Why do you downplay yourself at work?
Hi guys, and welcome back to I’ve Got You. A safe space helping young professionals navigate the corporate world.

Today’s spotlight
I’m not where I want to be.
I don’t feel like an expert.
I’m not doing as much as everyone else.
These are the thoughts I’d have leading up to a performance review.
I’d compare myself to my more experienced colleagues and downplay myself at work.
After a conversation with a friend, she told me to stop underestimating my abilities.
As a young professional, it's easy to feel
like you’re behind.
It’s easy for imposter syndrome to creep in.
However, you have the right skills and strengths.
Here are three ways to help you own your strengths:
✅ Note down your achievements and strengths.
↳ It’s easy to forget what you’ve achieved. Pause and celebrate yourself.
✅ Ask for feedback from mentors and friends.
↳ This helps you recognise your strengths more objectively.
✅ Invest in your learning and professional development.
↳ This helps you to feel more confident and own your expertise.
This is a friendly reminder to own your strengths and stop downplaying yourself.
It’s not what you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you’re not.
